The Production of Oil-seeds of Tree and Forest Origin in Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

With the gradual growth of human population, shortfalls in the production vis-a-vis requirements of oil-seeds has focused the attention of the State on the utilisation of oil-seeds of trte and forest origin all over the country oil from which source is not being fully exploited till now. The present paper gives the production potential of 25 important oil yielding tree and shrubs species of tree and forest origin occurring in U. P., on the basis of their enumeration statistics and fruit producing capacity. A review of the present level of production reveals that at present, hardly 10-15% of the total potential yield is being tapped. As such, the creation of a special agency to maximize production appears necessary.
