Abstract

The kinetics or periodate oxidation of Bamboo hemicellulose (Glucuronoxylan) have been studied in aqueous solution at 30°C & pH 4. It is observed that oxidation of hemicellulose follows a first order kinetics with respect to periodate concentration and the rate of oxidation is directly proportional to hemicellulose concentration. In the present studies an attempt to establish the rate law and the probable course of oxidation reaction have been made.
