Abstract

The present paper deals with the documentation and conservation of wild relatives of cultivated crops from the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve (GoMBR), Tamil Nadu. The present study resulted in documentation of 47 wild relatives of cultivated species from the study area. For each plant the correct botanical name, family name, habit, vernacular names and uses are provided. The various threats faced by the wild relatives and suitable conservation strategies are discussed.
