Abstract

The increasing population and industrialization have led to a rapid deterioration of water quality in rivers, causing a severe water shortage and risk to aquatic life. Researchers have studied physicochemical parameters such as temperature, pH, alkalinity, DO, CO2, fluoride, calcium, magnesium, sulfate, phosphate, and nitrate to understand the health of aquatic systems and prevent further deterioration. This review focuses on Indian rivers and a sub-Himalayan Devika stream in Jammu and Kashmir.
