Abstract

This paper reports eleven species of Bumblebees belonging to seven sub-genera of the genus Bombus Latereille, 1802 for the first time from the Uttarkashi district in the western Himalayas and one species of Bumblebee viz., Bombus himalayanus Skorikov, 1914 turns out to be the first state record for Uttarakhand. Subgenus Melanobombus Dallatorre, 1880 is represented by 3 species followed by 2 species each from Bombus sensu stricto and Pyrobombus Dallatorre, 1880 and 1 species each from Alpigeno bombus Skorikov, 1914; Mendacibombus Skorikov, 1914; Megabombus Dallatorre, 1880 and Sibricobombus Vogt, 1908 respectively. With the new addition of Bombus himalayanus Skorikov, 1914 the State Bumblebee fauna is now represented by 33 species of Bumblebees as a whole. A detailed systematic account with species diagnosis, habitat, microphotographs and new distributional data of each species is provided.
