Abstract

The quantitative study of vegetation is called 'Phytosociology' and its principal aim is to describe the vegetation, explain and predict its pattern and classify it in a meaningful way. This study deals with the measurement of different phytosociological attributes like density, basal area, importance value index and nature of vegetation in the forest of Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). Corbett Tiger Reserve most of the wildlife habitats are infested with invasive weeds in varying degrees. Incidence of lantana is more in plains. Encroachment of precious wildlife habitats by lantana has led to degradation and depletion of the prime habitats and of the preferred fodder species important for various herbivores. This can cause adverse impact on prey population and thus can affect in carnivorous population like, tiger and leopard adversely.
