Seed Source Variation in Khair (Acacia catechu Willd.)

An attempt was made to study the variation in seed traits among different seed sources of Acacia catechu from Haryana, Punjab, Uttaranchal and Jammu & Kashmir. Further, correlations among various seed traits, germination percentage and growth behaviour of parent trees was also estimated. The correlation matrix revealed that statistically significant correlation exists between seed weight and germination per cent, therefore seed weight can be considered as an important trait for early selection of seed sources. Comparatively, the seed sources i.e. Manjhi-l, Manjhi-2 (Hoshiarpur, Punjab); Pinjour (Haryana) and Rudraprayag (Uttaranchal) performed better in germination study.Downloads
