Effect of Plant Growth Regulators on Vegetative Propagation of <I>Vitex negundo</I> L. (Verbenaceae)

Abstract

Vitex negundo L. (Verbenaceae) is traditionally used against stored grain pests. Effects of different growth regulators, Stik (NAA with sodium as active ingredient). lAA, IBA and GA₃ (10-3000 ppm) on the growth and prodJlctivity of the plant in vegetative propagation was studied using stem cuttings. Stik treated cuttings showed maximum effect on rooting (100%), length of the root (30.5 cm) and node sprouting (91%) at 500-1000,500 and 1500 ppm respectively. They also showed maximum effect on average mumber of leaves (69/cutting) and average number oflateral branches (l0.2/cutting) at 1500 ppm. GA₃ showed inhibitory effect on rooting.
