1. The results of examination of a large number of brood lac samples received from different States for the forecast of larval emergence have been reported. 2. The Yellow Spot Method originally advocated by Negi (1955) as well as the Microscopic Method of examination of ovaries for ascertsining stages in the development of ova (Misra, 1929) have been found almost equally satisfactory for the forecast of larval emergence during Baisakhi, Katki and Jethwi crops on a number of lac hosts. None of the two methods can, however, be depended upon for the forecast of larval emergence during Aghnni crop. 3. Some general tests for judging crop maturity have been suggested. 4. Attempts have been made to simplify the Yellow Spot and Microscopic Methods, so as to make them more useful for those engaged in lac cultivation.Downloads
