This article gives a brief account of the various works under the Mechanised logging Scheme which commenced in the Melghat Forests of the then Amraoti Division of Maharashtra State in 1962. Each of the logging operations has been described. Effects and results of mechanisation with the help of power saws tractors and trucks have been discussed and compared with the old method of exploitation. Scrutiny of the data for the last two years shows that mechanisation involves less expenditure for logging of one cubic foot of timber. Enhanced outturn reduces wastage and quick and tinlely exploitation scores high over old methods.Downloads
