Abstract

Tuberous roots of Orchis latifolia Linn. Yield 'salep' used extensively in Unani and Ayurvedic prescriptions both as tonic and medicine. Recent market survey revealed a heavy import of these tubers in India valued at several millions of rupees. Steps necessary to develop the indigenous resources are discussed in this paper alongwith method of collection, drying and marketing.
