An Estimate of Transpiration by Eucalyptus globulus from Nilgiris Watersheds

A new method has been evolved to estimate the annual transpiration loss from a plantation of blue gum in the Nilgiris. The value is 3475 tonnes/ha of plantation, which works out to 34.75 cm out of a total rainfall of about 130 cm. The transpiration ratio works out to 1:235. It has been concluded that planting up of the highland watersheds of the Nilgiris, will not very much adversely affect, the water yield, to the existing reservoirs.Downloads
