Employment Potential of Forestry Sector in Himachal Pradesh

Abstract

Forest based industries can play a much greater role in the economy of Himachal Pradesh, but several units are working below their respective installed capacity. This is largely due to inadequate or uncertain supply of raw material i.e. wood etc. To overcome this problem and to strengthen these industries is by giving them long term lease over degraded forest land for raising plantation so as to meet their requirement of raw material, and the government will get rent or royalty for the area leased out to the industry and the latter, in return , will get an assured supply of raw material.
