Eight different soils were recognized in South Kheri forests on the basis of diffence in their characteristics. The soils are developed on alluvial sediments and are more or less young with marks of pedogenesis either faint or lacking. Sand constitutes the bulk of the solum invariably with varying amounts of silt and clay in the pedons and manifest their properties accordingly. Grasses appear to be the initial colonizers of the depositional surfaces and with advancement in pedogenesis woodland replaced grasslands in the process or ecological succession. They do not appear to have atained equilibrium with their environments so far and are still in dynamic state.Downloads
