Yield of Heartwood in <I>Acacia catechu</I> (Khair) for Use in Katha Manufacture

Abstract

Tbe heartwood of Acacia catechu (khair) tree is used in manufacture of katha. The period of harvest to meet the needs of industry will thus depend upon the time of maximum heartwood production. Tree model to simulate growth and yield of khair has been developed to predict yields obtainable under different site conditions. It also provides information to initial spacing for planting to obtain the most from the site.
