The distribution of different forms of iron in thirty two surface soils of West Bengal was studied. The results showed that of all the forms, free iron in the form of oxide was the highest and exchangeable iron the least. The iron in most cases was preset as on-clay fraction as was evidenced from the fact that exchangeable, available and 0.1 (N) HCl soluble iron bear significant positive correlation with organic carbon.Downloads
