Abstract

Germination and growth of seedling has been reported in graded and ungraded seed lots. In the present investigation, results revealed that maximum germination (91.34%) has been obtained in large sized seed lot and minimum germination (80.44%) has also been recorded in small sized seed lot. The highest (90.54 %) plant survival has been obtained in large sized seed lot and lowest (78.53%) has also been recorded in small sized seed lot. The same trend has also been observed in collar diameter, shoot length, root length, number of leaves and biomass of the seedling. The maximum seedling vigour index (1139.25) has been found in large sized seed lot and minimum (688.45) has also been obtained in small sizes seed lot. On the basis of seedling quality index, it is concluded that large sized seed should be recommended for production of quality seedling stock and it is also observed that the variation in the seedlings size can be avoided to a great extent if the large seed of uniform size could be used for production of quality seedlings.
