Abstract

The paper describes the results of the study of chos problem and their control carried out in Hoshiarpur Forest Division of punjab during 1965-66. It has been observed that there are number of chos causing devastation of the fertile fields, washing away of the villages, destruction of standing crops, burying of the houses, silting up of wells and reservoirs and destruction of other national properties like roads, railways, etc. The situation alarms for the immediate prevention of the damage and protection of the already damaged property by suitable conservation measures. With the combined efforts of Irrigation and Power Research Institute Directorate and Forest Department, many achievements have been made to control the problem through the introduction of various measures of mechanical and vegetative nature, which have been described in detail.
