Abstract

The present paper deals with the nomenclature on Indian plant having gone under the name of Sambucus ebulus L., in most Indian works. The European S. ebulus L. does not occur in India and all Indian specimens having gone under that name belong to S. wightiana Wall. ex Wight&Arnott, which is distinet from the former species in fewer decurrent leaflets, smaller flowers, spreading stamens with linear filaments, yellow anthers and orange red fruit. A detailed distribution of S. wightiana is also presented.
