Pre-sowing Treatment of Bhimal (<I>Grewia optiva</I> Drummond) Seeds

Abstract

Grewia optiva is an agroforestry tree species for sub-Himalayan region due to its fodder, fuel and fibre importance. A study was carried out to find out the effects of various pre-sowing treatments on seed germination of G optiva. Seed were treated with cold water, hot water, Cone. H₂So₄, and were mechanically scarified. It was found that seeds soaked in hot water for 24 hrs gafe quick germination as well as better germination percentage (49 66%) in comparison to other treatments.
