Abstract

Physical and Mechanical properties in green, airdry and kilndry conditions based upon tests conducted on small clear specimens obtained from four logs of Michelia champaca (Champ) from Assam have been reported. The results obtained have been compared with Michelia champaca from West Bengal and standard teak (from Malabar. Nilambur and Coimbatore). Suitability indices and safe working stresses have been reported and compared with the corresponding values of standard teak. It has been observed that the values are 20% lower than those of teak. The strength figures of this species from Assam have been found higher than the corresponding figures of this species from West Bengal.
