State of Gujarat is known for its different climatic conditions starting from moist deciduous to pure desert conditions. That could be one of the reasons that out of 22 species reported from India, nearly 16 species of Ophioglossum are found in the Gujarat state. In last monsoon's field survey, an interesting reddish coloured Ophioglossum was collected from the Jambughoda wildlife Sanctuary. After critical examination it is identified as O. rubellum (an African element) and reported as extended distribution record for India. Earlier it was misidentified as O. indicum, which is now corrected here. The detailed taxonomic account, distribution, conservation status, photographic evidences and comparative account is also provided herewith.References
