Abstract

Present ex-situ and in-situ conservation scenarios of retile fauna in Gujarat State are reviewed and discussed in detail. The conservation efforts among the people of Gujarat are notable. The state reptile fauna contains 114 species. Some of the common species are now threatened due to various types of threats; the most noticeable being unchecked industrial growth and water irrigation projects. The distributional pattern of many inhabiting reptilian species may change very soon due to the forthcoming irrigation projects. Therefore the paper advocates that the present conservation policies seriously need to be redesigned.
