The chemical components of Grevillea robusta (silver oak) bark are reported. Qualitative tests indicated the presence of mono and di-saccharides only. The bark was extracted successively with petroleum ether (60-80°C), chloroform, ethanol and water as solvents. The extractives were found to be in insignificant quantities. The bark was found to contain 1.77% ash, 7.85% hot water solubles, 4.67% alcohol-benzene solubles, 38.97% lignin, 17.59% pentosans, 46.17% holocellulose and 26.24% alfa-cellulose.Downloads
