U.P. Forest Corporation- a Review and Diversification

Abstract

Uttar Pradesh Forest Corporation was established in 1975. Keeping in mind social and environmental objectives. The main aim to set up Corporation was to eliminate contractor who was responsible for rapid denudation of forests and giving raw deal to the weaker section of the society. The Corporation started its activity with a small capital of Rs. 15 lakhs and during 1990-91 has earned a profit of more than Rs. 30 crores. Corporation is also doing welfare activities through its sale depots by selling forest produce at reasonable prices, sawin round timber of farmers and providing technical guidance for planting. The Corporation is also undertaking afforestation on privately owned wastelands to meet their need at doorstep and also to make available raw materials for forest based industries.
