Abstract

The genus Melocanna is distributed in Bangladesh, Burma and India, and consists of two species viz. M. humilis Kurz and M. baccifera (Roxb.) Kurz. The name of the Burmese species M humilis was preoccupied for a species of Cochin-China. Therefore, Parkinson renamed the Burmese species as Melocanna arundina Parker which is the correct name.
