Bambusa nutans Wall. ex. Munro is a medium sized with culms attaining a height of 5-10 m with diameter of 5-10 cm with 24-25 cm intermodal length (Pandalai et al., 2002). It is naturally occurring in sub-Himalayan tracts and commonly cultivated in North West India particularly in and around Dehradun and extensively cultivated in Odisha, West Bengal and the villages of Bangladesh (Banik, 1987) and considered as commercial species of Thailand (Anantachote, 1987). National Bamboo Mission has realized the economic potential of this esteemed species and initiated steps for its improvement through research and development on identification of superior germplasm, promotion and large scale propagation for commercial plantation.References
