Abstract

The abundance of 24 species of waterfowl belonging to 10 families was assessed over a period of 6 years (1995 to 2000) at Pulicat Lake, Andhra Pradesh, using data from an annual census conducted in February. Twenty one species, including endangered species such as the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) and Grey Pelican (Pelecanus philippensis) have declined in numbers over this period.
