Abstract

A study pertaining to procurement and marketing of non-timber forest products was conducted in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. The present study was based on primary data collected during the year 2015-16. The study covered 120 tribal households randomly selected from six villages of two tehsils of Udaipur district. The results of study revealed that average procurement of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) was found highest in winter season followed by summer and rainy season. Maximum procurement of NTFPs per household was found in mahua flower in summer season, mahua seed in rainy season and puwad in winter season. Majority of tribal households sold their NTFPs to village traders. The producer's share in consumer's rupee was maximum in case of mahua flower and mahua seed in Channel-I and Channel-II, respectively. The minimum support price (MSP) for NTFPs were substantial increased over the period of time. The overall quantity of NTFPs procured by RAJAS Sangh has been decreased from 3083.66 quintals in year 2010-11 to 842.54 quintals in year 2015-16 by 72.68 per cent. The short period of time for procurement of forest products was very serious constraint in procurement of NTFPs. Major constraints faced by tribal households in marketing of NTFPs were low price of forest products offered by village traders and irregular payment made by LAMPS. Tribal households were not found in selling of forest products in newly opened regulated market. Majority of village traders pointed out that they have to travel long distance up to regulated market for selling their forest produce. Government restriction on making desi alcohol was foremost constraint faced by tribal households in processing of mahua flower.
