Abstract

Melia is a small genus of trees occurring in the warmer parts of Asia and Australia. In India, it is said to be represented by 3 species, viz. M. azedarach L., M. dubia Cav. and M. birmanica Kurz,of which two species, viz. M. azedarach L. and M. dubia Cav. have been taken up for the present study. Morphologically, these trees are quite similar and therefore present study was undertaken to study the wood microstructure of M. azedarach and M. dubia and the results showed that the two species are different in their microstructure.
