Abstract

The present paper deals with the phytosociological analysis of the tree species of the Kuilapal forest patch of the Purulia District of West Bengal, India. A Total of 45 species belonging to 27 families were recorded in this forest. The highest important value index (57.82) was recorded for the dominant tree species Shorea robusta Gaertn. and the Codominant species are as Terminalia elliptica Willd.(30.165), Holarrhena pubescens Wall. exG. Don (24.90). Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub. (23). The Diversity index (H) Simpson Index (cd), and Evenness index (E.) were calculated. The value of these indices are 1.98, 0.0734 and 0.018268132 respectively. The Soil of this forest region is lateritic in nature and soil pHis 6.5. On the basis of IVI value, the forest type is Shorea – Terminalia- Holarrhena.
